Display environment error

Post by malihaahmed »

Hi, I've installed NEURON 7.8 on macOS Catalina (10.15.7) following all the steps in the guidelines including installing XQuartz (and also Xcode 12.1 to be able to compile the mod files). I can see when I drag and drop any hoc file or any folder with all the mod files etc, everything runs without error except for the following:

Warning: no DISPLAY environment variable.
--No graphics will be displayed.

I've tried to set the DISPLAY environment in the Mac terminal window using
export DISPLAY=:0
and then when I type in nrngui into the terminal, I can see the GUI windows appear. However, when I drag and drop any hoc files onto nrngui, I continue to see the DISPLAY environment error as described above. How can I resolve this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

XQuartz is one of those installations that requires one to logout and log back in in order to activate it.
