I've spent several hours on this but can't figure out how to fix it after reading documentation and forum. I note that this problem is consistent on three different Macs I have tested which are running slightly different versions of OSX (10.10, 10.11, 10.12):

When I start NEURON, the executable runs in Terminal while the GUI loads in XQuartz. This is strange behavior, and it causes all kinds of problems. How do I force NEURON and/or OSX to only use XQuartz, not Terminal?

You can start an xterm and launch from there.
