external voltage stimulation + stochasticity

Hello all,

What I would like to do is simulate the response of neurons stimulated with an external voltage. I've been doing this using the external mechanism, and I get nice results.

Now what I would like to add onto this idea is to excite more than one neuron (that has identical biophysical properties) with the same external voltage but add a randomness in the results to get a different pattern of firing from each neuron that corresponds to the same external voltage.

What is the best way (programming-wise and biology-wise) to go about doing this given that the cell's biophysical properties will be the same and the external voltage is the same.
Maybe a randomly varying firing threshold?
