hi ted,
i type em at the oc> prompt. then it switchs from hoc to emacs, but when i type ^c it can't return from emacs to hoc.
i am using neuron 7.2, do you know what's the problem.

Are you literally typing ^c (the carat character "^", followed by the letter "c") or are you holding down the CTRL (control) key and pressing c?

That explains it. Please note that ^x, where x is some character on the keyboard, is a commonly used notation that means "press the 'x' key while holding down the 'control' key".
