Where to put your files

Post by ted »

If you are just getting started with modeling, you may not be sure where to put your model files. A useful strategy is to make a folder for all of your modeling projects. This should be a folder that belongs to you. It should not be in a "system" folder (a folder that contains files that belong to your computer's operating system). Nor should it be in any folder that is part of the NEURON installation tree (for MSWin, the root of that tree is C:\nrn).

Inside your modeling projects folder, make a separate folder for each of your projects. This will help avoid all kinds of problems, including corrupting your installation of NEURON or your operating system, losing track of where things are located, accidentally deleting your project files when you update NEURON.
