modeling networks

hi, i m a new user of neuron 5.9..i want to make a network of about 40 neurons. i hv started using the gui.. which is the other method of designing a network? when i open a hoc file from desktop, i get only the main screen and cell builder screens.. hw do i get the main menu? pls recommend any help guide to be followed.

By writing code. The GUI tools for building nets are intended for quick prototyping of small
networks that can be tested and mined for reusable hoc code; Chapter 11 of The NEURON Book walks through a detailed example of how to do that. Several working examples of
published network models implemented with NEURON are available from ModelDB
