Creating 3d shapes from swc files

Managing anatomically complex model cells with the CellBuilder. Importing morphometric data with NEURON's Import3D tool or Robert Cannon's CVAPP. Where to find detailed morphometric data.

Creating 3d shapes from swc files

Post by Trapper »

I am a new user in Neuron and try to reconstruct my neuron's morphometric data by using the swc file format.
If i directly import the file after redrawing the neuron in my Image Pro program, CVAPP or NEURONs 3d tool can read the file.
Since in this file (due to problems with the recording software, a self programmed version in Image Pro) the soma is just represented as one point.
Due to these limitations i have to change the info about the vectorial coordinates and diameters for the soma manually in the swc file using an editor. After doing this however, the file cannot be read neither by NEURON or CVAPP. CVAPP always reads 0 points and NEURON just cannot recognize the file format. I checked the modified file: it is similar to the original one and
the connection indeces are correctly updated. Where could be the problem.

Thanks for suggestions

send me your original swc file (the one that
imports correctly) and your modified file (the
one that does not import) and I will take a look.
Send them to michael.hines@yale.edu
