different behavior with different number of segments

Post by mflynn »

We're using a detailed model of a neuron to simulate magnetic fields. To accurately model magnetic fields, we need to measure the voltage at enough points to include all of the twists and turns of the dendrites. However, as I increase the number of segments, the neuron switches from firing a single spike in response to a current injection, to firing a burst. The switch occurs when I make the maximum length of each segment no longer than 6.75 microns.

I don't understand how the qualitative response could depend critically on the length of each segment.

Thanks,
Mark

Sounds like a bug, but whether in the model specification or elsewhere remains to be
determined. Can you send just enough code to ted dot carnevale at yale dot edu
for us to reproduce this? Please note the recommendations in
What to include in a zip file, and what to leave out
