python not available

Post by iboardman » Mon Jul 12, 2010 5:34 pm

From what I read, installing neuron 7.1 should let me run nrniv -python and get an embedded python. What I get is the error "Python not available." From what I see in the rpm, there's libnrnpython* and a lib/python/neuron/ directory containing some python modules. I don't find any "hoc.py". My LD_LIBRARY_PATH includes this: $NRNHOME/i686/lib:$IVHOME/i686/lib pointing to the corresponding installed lib directories. Do I have the wrong package? Do I have to build from source after all? Thanks very much.

I suspect you have to build from source code.

Ok. That is what Andrew Davison thought as well, and now that's done. Seems to be working. Thanks.

Some people have to compile, others don't. Depends on details of their pre-existing Python.
