Thank you. The "-Py_NoSiteFlag" did the trick. I had no idea that Neuron tries to interact with Python when run stand-alone...

problems with the mingw installer
When running the installer nrn-7.3.rel-933.x86_64-w64-mingw32-setup.exe (or also nrn-7.3.x86_64-w64-mingw32-setup.exe) on Windows 7 64-bit I don't have a working version of Neuron. None of the installed links open any window. When I try to execute "neuron" from the command line it complain...

Thank you, Michael. I will give it a try. I assume that Neuron cannot be run from inside Canopy's interactive shell ("Editor") then (because the Python environment isn't set up to find Neuron)...

Enthought Canopy on Windows 64bit
Has anybody managed to get Neuron to work in Enthought Canopy (Python IDE; 64bit) on Windows? If so, could you please post some instructions? Thanks!

This is apparently not only a Mac issue. The same just happened to me on a Windows 7 64bit machine while testing the current beta version of Enthought's new Canopy IDE. It uses an IPython (0.13.1) QTconsole. Typing "import neuron" at the editor's interactive prompt causes a kernel crash. (...
