Simple Question: about parameter cm

Post by shrbert724 »

in the neuron text that I have, cm is listed as having units of uf/cm^2.

Questions:
Is cm actually in default units of uF/(cm^2)?
Is cm always this or will neuron automatically change it depending on other unit specifications?
Is there any way to change the units of cm in the hoc file, do I just need to make a UNITS{} section with the unit declaration I'm looking for?

Thank you for your time!

Yes.

Yes.

No.

Why do you ask? Are you trying to replicate a model that specified total
membrane capacitance?

We are replicating a model that has capacitance at 100 microfarads per cm2 which is far out of range of typical neurons. More questions may come, but I just wanted to verify that is the default parameter for cm.

So there is a problem with the numerical value of the parameter, not its
units.
