The 2004 NEURON Simulator Meeting
9 AM Friday, May 14 -- noon Sunday, May 16, 2004
Northwestern University, Chicago, IL
Organizers: M. Hines, T. Carnevale, J. Surmeier, N. Spruston, and W. Kath
Description
Registration is now open for the first NEURON Simulator Meeting.
The aim of the meeting is to bring together
people who are interested in using computational
modeling in neuroscience research and education --
especially current users of NEURON,
and others who are interested in using it --
for the following purposes:
- sharing knowledge about technical aspects of computational modeling
- keeping informed about the latest advances and "best practices" in the use of NEURON
- encouraging participation in NEURON's development
- stimulating communication and collaboration
This conference will alternate between single track sessions
for presentations and discussions on topics of general interest,
and multiple track breakout sessions for smaller group interactions.
We invite proposals for talks, symposia, tutorials, and workshops
(see "Proposals Invited" below).

that contains the meeting's schedule.
There will be a banquet on the evening of Friday, May 14,
but otherwise the evenings will be free for informal interactions
among participants.
The registration fee is $175, which covers morning and
afternoon coffee breaks, lunch on Friday and Saturday,
and the banquet.
Registration is limited to 50 participants
on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The deadline for registration is Friday, April 16, 2004.
NO on-site registration will be accepted.
Accommodations
Registrants from outside the Chicago area
will find it most convenient to stay at the
Allerton Crowne Plaza Hotel
(701 North Michigan Avenue, 312 440 1500),
which is very close to the conference facilities we will be using
on the Northwestern campus.
Described as "a classic large scale hotel",
the Allerton has many amenities and will also be the site of the conference banquet.
To make a reservation,
contact the hotel directly and tell them you are attending the NEURON Simulator Meeting.
Chicago
Chicago offers a multitude of opportunities for dining and nightlife,
as well as numerous museums, performances, and sporting events.
Proposals Invited
We invite participants to propose and be responsible for talks, symposia, tutorials, or workshops.
Symposia or tutorials are more or less formal presentations
but with time allocated for open discussion,
and workshops are relatively informal discussions of a more exploratory nature.
Appropriate topics include anything that is relevant to the technical aspects
of computational modeling in neuroscience.
Science per se is OK in limited doses,
but only insofar as it sets the stage for a technical discussion.
To facilitate scheduling, individual talks should be limited to 20 minutes plus 10 minutes
for questions and answers, and symposia, tutorials, and workshops will be allowed 2 hours
maximum (exceptions may be made upon special request).
Each individual whose proposal is accepted will be eligible for reimbursement of
up to a total of $1000 for travel costs to attend the meeting,
i.e. transportation, hotel, and per diem, but not the registration fee.
To propose an event, please send a
plain text file
(NO PDFs or giant Word documents!)
with the following information
to Ted Carnevale (ted.carnevale@yale.edu)
as soon as possible:
- The name of the organizer.
- The title and nature of the event (symposium, tutorial, workshop).
- A 200 word abstract that clearly states the topic(s) that will be addressed.
- A list of special needs, e.g. A/V equipment and room layout (classroom, round table, etc.).
- If this is a symposium or tutorial, a provisional list of speakers.
Note that each of these individuals will also be required to submit an abstract,
and will be eligible for reimbursement of travel costs.
