Description

This intensive multi-day course is designed for those who are planning to use NEURON in neuroscience research or teaching, or already have active modeling projects that involve NEURON. It presents what you need to know to build and work with models of individual neurons and networks of neurons.

This course is suitable for users at all levels of expertise.

  • Beginners with little or no modeling experience will learn not only the technical aspects of modeling but also its philosophical basis and scientific rationale.
  • Intermediate users will learn how best to approach common tasks, and under what circumstances special features of NEURON might be particularly helpful.
  • Experienced users will benefit from an update on new features and a review of important topics that may have escaped their attention when they first learned how to use NEURON.

This year we have increased the course duration from 5 days to 6 in order to provide expanded coverage of parallel simulation with NEURON, and to give registrants more time for active learning exercises that are needed to gain proficiency. Each day will run from 9 AM to 5 PM, with lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises. Every afternoon there will be a block of free time in which participants may work on exercises or projects of their own choosing, with expert help near at hand, and at the end of each day there will be a wrapup sesssion.

Space is limited, and applications will be considered in the order received. The application deadline is Monday, May 15, 2017. No applications will be accepted after that date, and there will be no on-site registration.

Applicants are expected to pay the registration fee by Monday, May 15, 2017.

Declaration of Administrative Efficiency

From their inception, the NEURON courses have held to a policy of administrative efficiency in order to save everyone's time, effort, and money. In particular, we are already fully occupied with teaching, research, and administrative tasks, and have no secretarial staff to deal with paperwork or other special requests imposed by applicants' institutions. Requests to divert time and effort to activities that are not directly related to the scientific and didactic content of these courses cannot be honored. Applicants whose institutions require information about the course, or confirmation of their registration status, are encouraged to submit printouts of these pages and related email that they receive from us. We also provide a receipt form in one of the handout booklets that is distributed at the start of the course.
